Since Suzi’s comments on the last post I did regarding Pickton, I feel there’s A couple of points I’d like to clarify before moving on to other topics.
First of all, I stated there was only circumstantial evidence against Pickton. This is wrong. There’s a ton of direct evidence against him. This mistake was due to my own misunderstanding of what ‘circumstantial’ evidence is.
According to Wikipedia, an example of circumstantial evidence would be if you were to testify that you believed it was raining on Wednesday because everyone who came into your office that day was wet and carried umbrellas which were also wet. This caused you to draw the probable conclusion that it was raining without directly witnessing the rain yourself.
Direct evidence on the same example would be if you testified that you were out in the rain on Wednesday, or if you witnessed rain falling from the sky through a window. So finding personal belongings of the victims at the scene, and certainly finding body parts and DNA is direct evidence! I really blew it there.
The second and last point I wanted to make regarding this post is the statement I made that Pickton wasn’t the only one involved. This was taken strictly from a statement Pickton said himself, and is from www.cbc.ca Jan 26th entitled: “I Got Sloppy”. Here’s the passage:
‘I’m not the only guy,’ Pickton tells police
As Adam took over the interrogation, he told Pickton all his friends were turning on him.He said even Pickton’s brother Dave had told police “that there are bodies, and that you didn’t kill them all … that Dinah has killed some of these girls and that, for some of them, you’ve just helped get rid of the bodies.”Pickton told investigators he wouldn’t say anything about Dinah Taylor, a close friend of his, until he talked to her. An hour later Pickton said:“There’s other people.… The problem is way over your head and I, like I said, I’m not gonna, I’ll take the fall for everything, but the problem is I’m the head honcho and you got me now.” Out of curiosity I googled Dinah Taylor and found an interesting site that fills in a few particulars about Dinah: http://www.missingpeople.net/police_coddling_key_pickton_witness.htm Apparently she lived on a trailer on Pickton’s farm for eighteen months. She’s a heroin and cocaine addict and last year she moved back to Ontario. She has been subpoenaed to appear as a witness in the Pickton trial. When I googled ‘Dave Pickton’, I uncovered a site which explained how Pickton came to frequent the downtown eastside, and about the parties with sex trade workers from this area. http://www.missingpeople.net/’a_disaster_in_every_way-june_23,_2002.htm
Hopefully this answers concerns raised, and thank you to Suzi, who inspired me to return and document facts more accurately.
